Some of my Healthcare Administration content has gone viral over on Tiktok, which is both exciting and overwhelming.
When this occurs, I tend to get the same questions over and over again:
Should I change my major to Healthcare Administration?
What do you think about my career goals?
How’s the pay? How much do you make?
And most importantly..
How can I get a job?
Now, I could rattle off all the tips and tricks I’ve learned each time I pivoted, decided to take my career in a different direction, and found jobs that were in alignment. And I do plan to share those things!
But, it’s more important to know your why.
Why do you want a job? Or better yet: Why do you want this job?
One surefire way that you can waste your time during the job search journey is to aimlessly apply to any and every job that comes your way.
I understand that the job market is horrendous these days, and the sheer lack of any engagement or communication at all with a real recruiter doesn’t make it any easier, but don’t let the desperation get to you.
Aimlessly applying to various job listings is especially useless when you submit low-quality materials. Your job application materials are low-quality if:
You submit the same resume with all your applications
You submit the same cover letter, or don’t write a cover letter at all
You copied and pasted lines from your job description into your resume
Your resume has bright colors and designs
Your resume and/or cover letter has inconsistent formatting
Your resume and/or cover letter has grammatical errors and typos
Following the logic will tell you that if you submit low-quality application materials, then you become a low-quality applicant. The recruiter, employer—even the ATS resume screening software—will not take you seriously.
Speaking of ATS screening, I found this Reddit thread filled with great advice on how to optimize your resume for it.
So, this is what you should do if you want more than just any old job—this is what you should do if you want to build a career in Healthcare Administration
I highly recommend that you reframe your job search journey so that you’re not just focused on signing a job offer as soon as possible, but rather you should view this season as intentionally laying down the groundwork of building your career.
Hear me: I’m not saying that if you sit down, plan out your entire 30-year career, and commit to it that everything will go according to plan.
But, what I am saying is that you should at least know (1) what you want your next career step to be and (2) where you want your career to be in the next 5 years. This will ensure that regardless of your next position, you won’t feel stuck or stunted because you have an idea of where you’re headed.
Now, there are steps to this process..I’ve even created a one-of-its-kind framework based on the process I’ve (unknowingly) used for yearssss.
And every single time I changed direction with my career, it’s worked!
While I’d love to sit down with each and every person that leaves a comment on my posts or my videos, there just isn’t enough time in the day.
So, I’m hoping that sharing this valuable information will empower and inform you so that you can apply it to your life & circumstances.
